http://www.thebcclan.com/index.php?option=...p;topic=26320.0 If you've got any info, I'd appreciate it |Random| QUOTE I've got a windows 7 x64 UPDGRADE install file, and I have a vista x64 install CD... Anyone know if I'd be able to follow the same process with my vista/7, going through the process of copying the files from my vista DVD to the HD, and somehow "slipstream" the win7 upgrade into the files, reburn the files, and essentially have a windows 7 install dvd? Won't work like that. Slipstreaming only works for integrating service packs, hotfixes, etc. Trying to slipstream a full OS into a full OS (Upgrade is the license, still a full OS) wouldn't work. You already have a full working install of Windows 7 in that upgrade file. You need to hack the boot sector of the ISO/disc and certain files to make it think it's either a Retail or OEM copy. I haven't looked into Windows 7 yet, but all previous copies of Windows CD's have had pretty much the same software on them, only thing that changes are the setup scripts and licensing. This includes Vista, which was the same CORE OS on all flavors, just the additional crap was or was not included on the disc, but there is a way to make it think it's something else and just not install the missing options. -------------------- Social Engineering Specialist.

It isn't an ISO... it was a downloaded (legit) copy of win7, so it went through a download manager and gave me a setup.box and setup2.box file, and a win7.exe file (with a funky, long ass name almost like xp's SP3 install file), and you run the install file and it takes it from there... |Random| -------------------- |

I have no clue about cracking an OS to change an upgrade into a full version.
I always buy the system builders version of MS software. Takes 80-100 off the price of the OEM version. -------------------- |

I wouldn't consider it cracking it so to say, I would just relate it simply to windows 7 being a service pack to vista... unlike XP, vista and win7 have the same basic architecture, so I figured it might be possible to slipstream in the windows 7 upgrade into the vista full install, allowing for a full win7 install... it's farfetch'd, but I figured if anyone has any insight on it, or wants something to do some weekend, here ya go |Random| -------------------- |

Holy shit! It's a Demon! How's life been treating you? Shitty, as usual. I was in DFW not too long ago for a few months working. Had work taken me to Houston, I would have tried to get ahold of you so we could of grabbed a beer or something. I check the website pretty much daily or every few days, just fyi. -------------------- Social Engineering Specialist.

(SMS = System Management Service, it's a function in some MS products for doing in-house patching and such instead of using Windows update.) I downloaded Win7 legit as well (build 7100, the Beta I believe) and it gave me an ISO. I don't recall if I specifically selected an ISO or what though. Did you download it from MSDN/TechNet or something? There should be an option for an ISO if so. What'd you need to do is use something like PowerISO to tack on the boot loader from an OEM/Retail disc onto your CD/DVD and change a few files, don't know the name of the files off the top of my head, but they are the script files of what to load during setup and tells it what version. Like I said though, I haven't looked into Windows 7 yet, so it might not be possible anymore. Slipstreaming Win7 UPG into Vista OEM/RTL is definately not possible, unless you manually hack the hell out of it, but I doubt it'd run/install properly even if you did it manually. I don't even think nLite would support what your trying to do. -------------------- Social Engineering Specialist.
